How to choose a tea set as a gift
By The Anaiza Nest team · Last updated

Choose the tea set for the person, and the right one is easy to find.
Where do you start when choosing a tea set as a gift?
Start with how the person drinks tea, not with the pattern. Someone who makes one large pot for the family needs a different set from someone who brews small cups slowly for friends. Answer three questions first: how many people will share it, how do they brew, and where will it live? The rest of the choice follows.
How many cups should the set have?
- Two cups: a couple, or a mother and daughter. The number itself is part of the message.
- Four to six cups: a family, or a home where guests arrive often.
- Small gongfu cups: a tea lover who pours many small rounds rather than one large cup.
Which material should you choose?
| Material | How it feels | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Porcelain | Thin, smooth and light | Someone who loves a refined table, like the Ruyao blue and white set |
| Glazed ceramic | Heavier, keeps tea warm longer | Daily use and family tea |
| Purple sand clay | Unglazed, slowly takes on the tea's flavour | A tea lover with one favourite tea, like the purple sand clay set |
| Glass | Clear, so you watch the leaves open | Green and flower teas, like the smoky glass set for 6 |
Gongfu set or regular tea set?
A regular set has a larger teapot and cups for one long brew: the way most homes in Bangladesh make tea. A gongfu set has a small teapot or gaiwan and small cups, for brewing the same leaves several times. Choose gongfu for someone curious about tea itself; choose a regular set for a home that hosts.
Where will the tea set live?
A set for the dining table can be larger and more decorative. A set for the office should be compact, such as the smoky glass tea set for 6 with tray and carry case (৳7,600). For someone who travels or works between places, a travel set packs into its own carry case: the ceramic travel tea set with tray and carry case is ৳3,590.
Does the tea set come ready to give?
Check the product page for what is in the box. Many Anaiza Nest sets arrive in their own gift box or fitted case, so there is nothing more to wrap. If you are sending the gift directly, a boxed set arrives looking the way you imagined it.
How much should you spend on a tea set gift?
- Under ৳3,000: the lotus arch tea set for 3 (৳1,249), the portable travel tea set (৳2,320) and the hand-painted peach travel set for two (৳2,770).
- ৳3,000 to ৳7,000: the Ruyao and green glaze tea and incense sets, the Five Blessings set and the floral ceramic tea set for 4.
- ৳7,000 to ৳17,000: the embossed white porcelain dragon tea set (৳9,870), the smoky glass tea set with electric tea stove (৳12,300), and gongfu sets in fitted cases such as the blue and white gongfu tea set for 8 (৳16,600).
- A collector piece: the handcrafted blue tenmoku set at ৳32,500.
A quick checklist before you order

- Do they brew one large pot or many small rounds?
- Which material suits their table?
- Does it come in a box or case?
